De Turkse band Lalalar uit Istanbul klinkt als de begintune van je favoriete 80’s cultserie. Hun sound is een verrukkelijke muzikale schattenjacht: spaghettiwestern-psychedelica, Anatolische funk, gruizige elektronica en slimme sampling smelten samen tot een broeierig geheel.
Met retro-cinematische baslijnen, vuile elektronische beats, vervormde vocals, speelse gitaren en zorgvuldig opgedolven samples uit het rijke muzikale erfgoed van Anatolië creëert Lalalar een gevoel van vertrouwen en radicale vernieuwing.
De band werd opgericht door drie gerenommeerde muzikanten uit de Turkse muziekscene, die zowel solo als gezamenlijk hun strepen ruimschoots verdienden. Lalalar geldt dan ook als een van de meest opwindende Europese ontdekkingen van dit moment.
Hun zinderende debuutsingle Isyanlar, vrij vertaald: “opstanden”, zegt eigenlijk alles. Live ontketent Lalalar een muzikale rebellie die je niet alleen hoort, maar ook voelt.

With their new single “Hapisteler Ama Yeniliğe Doğru”, Lalalar shine the light of Rumi’s 750-year-old verses onto the shadows of today. What was writen in the 13th century stll strikes with urgency, refectng the unrest and resilience of contemporary Istanbul.
The track pays tribute to Tülay German & François Rabbath’s 1981 recording “Hommage à Nâzım Hikmet” in Paris. Like a dream within a dream, it becomes an homage within an homage—where voices of resistance and renewal echo across borders and tme.
Sound-wise, Lalalar never miss a beat. Dark, glitchy, and industrial—melancholic to the bone—the music propels Rumi’s words into the chaos of the present, fusing ancient longing with razor-sharp electronics. It is a bridge across centuries, compelling us to confront the contradictons of our age and the hope that refuses to die.
